Firefox 3.5 arrives

July 1st, 2009

Firefox 3.5 is out now. Mozilla says the newest version of their browser will be more than twice as fast and more useful.

Some new features:

1) Undo closed window: Firefox 3.5 implements a restore feature for both tabs and windows from the History menu, which would (hopefully) also restore any text you’ve typed into them.
2) Forget this site: Firefox 3.5’s history browser offers a convenient “Forget this site” option, erasing your browser’s memory of particular domains.
3) Tab tearing: Grab a tab and drag it out a bit to create a new browser window from it. Drag windows into tabs again, and open any tab in a new window from the right-click menu, if clicking and dragging isn’t your style.
4) Color profiles that pop: Firefox 3.5 introduces dynamic color profiles for each picture, meaning that whatever the graphic designer or photographer saw when they were doing their work, you’ll see it on their web page.
5) TraceMonkey JavaScript engine: JavaScript engine, TraceMonkey, is claimed to be muchfaster than the SpiderMonkey engine installed in Firefox 3.
6) Geo-location: Integrated geo-location, powered by Google’s Wi-Fi triangulation and simple IP address information, looks to know roughly where you are and help you when you’re looking for something local.
7) Support for HTML 5: A lot of the new stuff in Firefox 3.5 is support for new web technologies that only web developers will really geek out on. But some of those new technologies, like HTML 5 and the CSS @font-face rule, will have a noticeable positive effect for users.

Unusual text ad on Google

June 24th, 2009

While doing some random searches on Google today, I came across this very unusual ad. I was searching for keywords for Delhi and few other words, when I saw a text ad with following details

1) Headline of ad: Text ad
2) 1st Line: Desc1
3) 2nd Line: Desc2
4) Display Url: www.url.com
5) Destination Url: http://www-test-0000000139-com.netsolads.com/………………….

Google ad

Google ad

How can these ads go live google, when google claims to have strict policies for ad text. Also as per google policy, your display url and destination url should be same, which is not in this case. And when I clicked on the ad, it took me to a page which is completely blank.
